Remodeling Projects-Cost vs. Value


When thinking of remodeling their home, most people don't consider what they'll get back from the project when they sell their home. You're really just thinking about your personal enjoyment from the project. It's surprising how many remodeling projects don't pay for themselves when you do decide to sell your home though. 

In fact, the majority of home updates and additions won't recoup what you spent for them, according to the 2016 Cost Vs. Value Report from the National Association of REALTORS and Remodeling magainze. The report has some interesting findings in it - who would have thought a new garage door would deliver such a return?!. Remember, these kinds of reports deal with estimates and averages and every city has their own identity when it comes to what's hot and trendy in remodeling. Before you file a complaint

Many problems arise because of lack of communication or the communication breaks down. Try talking to your agent's broker first, if your agent holds a salesperson's license. If your agent is the broker, you can utilize the services of the Texas Association of REALTORS® OMDUDSMAN program. This program can reestablish the lines of communication, and save both parties the trouble of filing a complaint.

Code of Ethics and Complaints

All REALTORS® must abide by NAR's Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. If you have a problem with your Lubbock REALTOR®, you can file an Ethics Complaint with the Texas Association of REALTORS®. To make sure the individual you have a complaint against is a REALTOR®, go to the Texas Association of REALTORS® File a complaint page.

If your agent is not a REALTOR®, you will need to contact the licensing agency in Texas, the Texas Real Estate Commission, phone 512-936-3000.

Tips For Using the "Find a Home" Feature

The search requires you to enter at least 2 criteria to search for properties, or you can search by listing (MLS) number if you have it.  Acceptable combinations are:

  • Property Type & Zone
  • Property Type & Sub Zone
  • Property Type and City
  • Property Type & Zip Code
  • Property Type & Price (most commonly used search)
  • Street Number or Street Name - be sure to indicate if it is the "exact" name or "begins with" that.
  • Listing (MLS) Number
