Very Important! Fingerprints Are Required When Applying for a Brokers or Salesperson License! Pursuant to of the Real Estate License Act, any person applying for or renewing a broker or salesperson license must provide their fingerprints, in a specified format, so that the FBI criminal history check can be performed. Do not send fingerprint cards, FAST Fingerprint Passes or anything else relating fingerprints to the Texas Real Estate Commission. Education Requirement The Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) is the licensing agency for real estate brokers, salespersons and inspectors. According to TREC, the following education is required for a salesperson license: - Principles of Real Estate Core real estate course [60 classroom hours]
- Law of Agency Core real estate course [30 classroom hours]
- Law of Contracts Core real estate course [30 classroom hours]
- An additional Core real estate course [30 classroom hours, example: Real Estate Investments]
- Another four semester [60 classroom] hours in Core courses or in Related courses acceptable to the commission.
After you have completed your education, you may file and pay for the "Application for Inactive Salesperson License." TREC requests that you apply and pay online for your Inactive Salesperson License. You may scan and send your education documents electronically to education@trec.state.tx.us or fax them to 512-465-3989 with a copy of your completed application.
Obtain Sponsorship Before you can practice as a licensed salesperson you must arrant for a Texas real estate broker holding an active license to sponsor you as a salesperson. Applicants and inactive salespersons are not authorized to act as real estate agents.
